So you’ve probably been jammin’ out to Mura Masa’s latest hit ‘Love$ick’ featuring A$AP Rocky but who exactly is Mura Masa you may ask?
Alex Crossan (aka. Mura Masa) is a British electronic music producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, growing up in Guernsey, an island located just off the coast of France, Crossan grew up quite isolated from the traditional division between genre’s of music.
Despite this he played in punk and hardcore bands and later grew an interest in electronic music and started producing his own music in the comforts of his bedroom from the ripe age of 16.
Released in April 2015, his debut album ‘Someday Somewhere’ was summed up quite fittingly by Crossan as “a collection of love stories told from different perspectives”, the album features vocals from Nao, Denai Moore and Jay Prince.

‘Lovesick F***’ originally from the EP reached No 1 on the UK and US’s Spotify Viral Charts.
Later that year, A$AP Rocky jumped on the song and its popularity has been consistently growing with the song featuring on Triple J’s Hottest 100 (2017) and continuing to rise upwards in Itunes charts globally.
Crossan described the collaboration process with A$AP Rocky in a statement to MusicTimes:
“Rocky was actually in London for a couple of days and I wanted to make him feel like I was taking the collaboration seriously, so I booked us in to Abbey Road, Studio 2, and we met up there for a couple of hours and he did his thing. It was a hell of a good time hanging out in such a legendary space with him, very surreal,” explains Crossan.
“The track originally was about sex and how I was feeling after a particularly empty encounter with a friend told through a kind of twisted-pop, calypso, hip hop dance track. Rocky kind of ran with that and took it to this lovelorn, exotic place. He totally injected his energy into it.”
With even bigger things on the way, Crossan is set to release a new album interestingly titled, ‘To Fall Out of Love To’ sometime this year.
Crossan told ABC’s Triple J that the album is going to be “experimental”, “more mysterious” and “full of cool collaborations”.

Crossan is also expected to make his way down under sometime this year to tour, as he told ABC’s Triple J around the middle of last year, “I’m not sure of the exact dates, I think it might be the very end of this year or the start of next year but I’m definitely coming.”
