“I want to give you a collection of songs that become the soundtrack to your life” – Aubrey Graham (Drake) on ‘More Life’.
This weekend Drake fans are in for a treat as he plans on dropping his album-length playlist ‘More Life’ on March 18.
But big question on everyone’s mind is what should we expect… well we have compiled a list of some of the things we already know about the new album.
Drake is known for his favourable talk of the UK rap scene so it is likely that there will be heavy UK influence in this album. English rapper Giggs is expected to feature on the album, Drake premiered his track with London MC Giggs at the Boy Meets World Tour in Amsterdam and at a London nightclub.
Also expected to make an appearance include Party Next Door, Bryson Tiller, The Weeknd, J Lo and Young Thug.
Now the tracks that will definitely be featured include the chart-topper, sing-a-long ‘Fake Love‘, ‘Sneakin’ with 21 Savage, ‘Two birds and one stone’ and potentially even a remix of UK MC Dave’s ‘Wanna Know’.
Arguably Graham’s 2016 album ‘Views’ definitely had a more conservative feel about it receiving acclaim and critic. However I feel ‘More Life’ will definitely be more experimental and will have those well needed bangers ‘Views’ may not have provided for some.
Drake’s manager Oliver El-Khatib is the executive producer, he also featured in the production of his 2009 mixtape ‘So Far Gone’. In an interview to Semtex Drake said “Oliver had so much input on So Far Gone, so I was like, Man it would be nice to do something with me and you again, so I gave him that task and he’s at home piecing it together”.
Other notable producers to be expected include Murda Beatz (featured in snippets of released tracks from ‘More Life’) and Noah “40” Shebib including all the usual Ovo Sound producers.
Known for his endorsements with Apple it is expected ‘More Life’ will be released as an Apple music exclusive and will premiere on Beats 1 as apart of his ‘Ovo Sound Radio’.
Considering Drake is releasing his new music as a playlist rather than in a typical album format suggests he is more likely going to be trying some stuff he normally likes to put in front of his listeners in his Beats 1 playlists.
The Title & Album Art
Particularly seen through his released single ‘Controlla’ , Drake has been heavily inspired by Vybz Kartel in particular the Jamaican dancehall scene. ‘More Life’ is a Jamaican slang phrase to wish someone well.
The album art itself from looking at the front cover appears quite simple featuring a photo of Drake’s very own dad, Dennis Graham writing on a notepad. This may suggest that some of the albums inspiration may have come from his father whom may feature in the lyrics of a track.
