From the small Aboriginal community of Woorabinda in Central Queensland, the talented Miiesha has returned with her new single, ‘Twisting Words’.
‘Twisting Words’ is a prelude to Miiesha’s forthcoming collection of songs, ‘Nyaaringu’ set to be released to the masses on May 29.
The collection ties common themes of her life, her community and her people.
Particularly noteworthy is her grandmother’s interlude highlighting the transcendence of knowledge from Elders through the generations.
“For me, she was and always will stay with me as the strongest voice in my life, so I felt she had to be a part of this with me.
“I want to use my life experience to share stories that bring people together and help people understand my community,” she said.
‘Nyaaringu’ is a collection of stories that Miiesha personally wanted to tell the world.
“For me, it represents my journey and where I’m at now coming from Woorabinda,” she said.
Miiesha’s impressive talents garnered attention in 2019, when Triple J featured her as an Unearthed Feature Artist in August following her debut single, ‘Black Privilege’.
She has toured alongside Thelma Plum and Baker Boy, already cementing herself as a favourite in the Australian music festival scene, recently playing at Laneway and scheduled in for Splendour In The Grass.
