New On The Block: Lion Babe

It’s time to embrace some ‘futuristic nostalgia’ with Lion Babe, as their sounds take us on the ultimate futuristic trip blending vintage colours with modern sonics.

Lion Babe is a New York bred funk and soul duo comprising of the rich talents of multi-disciplinary artists, Jillian Hervey and producer Luca Goodman (also known as Astro Raw).

The formation of Lion Babe evolved from a mutual friend of one of the duo at a party after Hervey heard Goodman’s tunes.

‘Treat Me Like Fire’ was their break-out single which rather rapidly circulated across the globe.

Working hard, the duo released an LP titled, ‘Begin’ (2016) which included single, ‘Wonder Woman’ produced by Pharrell Williams, along with other admirable tune, ‘Jump Hi’ featuring Childish Gambino.

‘Wonder Woman’ also peaked at number one on Billboard’s Twitter Emerging Artists chart.

Some of you may even be familiar with their voices on Disclosure’s single, ‘Hourglass’ which features on their memorable studio album, ‘Caracal’ (2015).

If you thought that wasn’t enough, Lion Babe have already mesmerised audiences at Glastonbury and even, the main stage of Coachella.

In 2018, Lion Babe released singles, ‘Rockets’ featuring Moe Moks, ‘Honey Dew’ and addictive dance tune, ‘Hit The Ceiling’ which featured in HBO’s, ‘Insecure’.

Lion Babe’s most recent work is their latest album, ‘Cosmic Wind’ which details the band’s evolution as artists and musicians, rooted in themes of transformation and inevitable change.

We recommend you give ‘The Wave’ featuring Leikeli47 and newest single, ‘Western World’ featuring Wu-Tang Clan’s very own, ‘Raekwon’.

You’re probably wondering where the name, ‘Lion Babe’ came through and really it evolved overtime, stemming from a combination of Lucas’ horoscope sign being a Leo and Hervey’s hair.

The two grew up being inspired amongst many music greats.

Goodman was inspired by and studied the work of J Dilla, Flying Lotus and Timbaland, saying “their techniques were like magic to me.”

On the other hand, Hervey was inspired by many classic vocalists such as Marvin Gaye, Tina Turner, Chaka Khan and Erykah Badu.
