Indigenous singer, songwriter Miiesha has returned back to our airwaves with bold brand new single, ‘Hold Strong’.
Ahead of her debut nine track collection, ‘Nyaaringu’ set for release in May, ‘Hold Strong’ is a prime example of the soft power of her stellar vocals and musical craft.
You may remember Miiesha from our previous article, moving to the city from her small home in the small Aboriginal community of Woorabinda, she began observing the contrast in how her people where being portrayed by the media which inspired her upcoming album.
“We had started working with IAMMXO, who produced my whole project, ‘Nyaaringu’ and he sent through a few beats to write to and this one instantly stood out.
“Having moved away from home I was starting to see more of how the media portrayed my people and my community and felt I needed to speak on it,” she said.
Miiesha described that ‘Hold Strong’ came together quite quickly despite many last minute changes to the chorus and elements of the song.
In fact, the song was recorded across multiple places.
“Parts were recorded everywhere, from young rooms in the city, to a caravan on a farm to a studio, as I made little changes along the way,” Miiesha said.
Her upcoming debut project, ‘Nyaaringu’ has been very eagerly awaited as it features a collection of special heartfelt songs all tied together through common themes of her life, her community and her people.
What’s even more special about the project is her late grandmother’s interludes providing the ultimate thread between tracks, underlining the passing down of knowledge from Elders through the generations.
“For me she was and always will stay with me as the strongest voice in my life, so I felt she had to be a part of this with me.
“Nyaaringu is a collection of stories that I feel I wanted to tell or that I needed to speak on.
“For me, it represents my journey and where I’m at now coming from Woorabinda,” she said.
Following a stellar performance at Laneway Festival earlier this year and her Splendour in the Grass debut put on hold until October, Miiesha has been busy posting some #iso live musings over the last month. You don’t even need to go out this Friday night, all you need is to turn up those speakers and jump onto Miiesha’s Facebook and Instagram for all that live musical goodness.
