If there’s one album you need to listen to before the end of the year, go plug into Olivia Dean’s delightful new EP, ‘What Am I Gonna Do On Sundays?’
With only four tracks in total this record clearly epitomises how simplicity is often best and nicely follows on from her debut 2019 EP, ‘Ok Love You Bye’.
What really makes this one stand out is the majestic soulful sounds interwoven throughout the record produced by none other than Felix Joseph, know for his work with Jorja Smith, AJ Tracey and Mahalia.
Overlaying the fervent soundscapes merge alongside Dean’s universal storytelling, which contemplates break-ups, self retrospection and growth.
“I am super proud of all the tracks on this EP and I’m so excited for everyone to hear them. ‘What Am I Gonna Do On Sundays’ is a collection of songs that document the journey of a break-up.
“There’s a sad and longing one, the upbeat heartbreak one, the confused and indecisive one and the confrontational, angry one,” Dean said.
In short, there really is a song for everyone on this record.
What makes the EP even more special for Dean is that each of the tunes was penned alongside some of her most favourite collaborators, including Oli Bayston, Glen Roberts, Max Wolfgang and Bastian with Felix.
Music has always played a strong part in Dean’s life, from uploading songs online to catching the ears of London label, AMF with her first ever song, ‘Reason to Stay’.
She was even named New Artist of the Week on Apple for her tune, ‘Password Change’ and- has been added to Radio 1’s BBC Introducing playlist.
Since then, she has expanded her impressive fan base at a gripping rate which is why ya gal is excited to see what this gifted gal has in store over the next few years.
